Three-day business trip: the kit

A short work trip is a stress test for the carry system. Travel days, hotel days, presentation days. The kit either holds or it does not.

A short work trip is a stress test for the carry system. Travel days, hotel days, presentation days. The kit either holds or it does not.

The case.

The Concord is the right pick for the short business trip. Top-opening, pilot-shaped, a padded laptop compartment built into the lid. The case stands upright next to the work chair and opens like a small armoire.

A three-day list.

  • One suit or two-piece outfit. Garment-folded across the top of the case, then folded once at the lapel.
  • Two dress shirts, rolled along the long axis. Place collar-to-cuff so the collars stay flat.
  • One pair of trousers, folded once.
  • One pair of denim or casual trousers for off-hours.
  • One sweater or layer.
  • One pair of dress shoes (worn in transit), one pair of sneakers (in the case).
  • Underwear and socks for three days plus one spare.
  • Belt and tie.
  • A small jewelry pouch.

Work kit.

  • Laptop, in the Concord's padded compartment.
  • Power adapter and the cable that matches the dock or display at the destination.
  • A spare USB-C cable.
  • One notebook, one pen.
  • Business cards, if relevant.
  • Two paper printouts of the presentation, folded into the laptop sleeve.

Toiletries.

  • Decanted essentials in 50 ml bottles.
  • A second deodorant for the second night, decanted ahead.
  • The hanging wash bag (Concord) hooks on the bathroom door of the hotel and turns the bathroom into a working setup in under a minute.

What to leave home.

The extra shoes. The "in case" outfit. The book that will not get read. The laptop stand if the hotel has a desk.

A short trip is not a small trip. It is a dense one. A dense kit, well placed, is the difference between arriving at a meeting composed and arriving with a wrinkled shirt and no charger.
