Stadium-approved clear bags

Most US stadiums share the same bag policy. A clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no larger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches, or a one-gallon resealable freezer bag. A small clutch (4.5 x 6.5 inches) is permitted alongside the clear bag. The rule traces to the NFL's 2013 policy and has since spread across MLB, MLS, and many concert venues.

The clear bag is a niche purchase. It earns a place in the kit for travelers who attend concerts, games, or large public events on the road.

What to look for.

Dimensions within the rule. 12 x 6 x 12 inches is the maximum, not a target. Some bags published as "stadium approved" measure slightly over and get turned away.

Closure. A zip is preferable to an open top. The clear bag is the only bag at the seat; nothing should fall out.

Strap. A crossbody strap of at least 50 inches. Long enough to wear over a layered outfit and through a wave or a stand.

Build. Reinforced corners. Vinyl that does not crease. PVC that does not yellow.

A clutch pocket. Many stadium-approved clear bags include a small interior clutch or pouch where credit cards and ID sit without being visible from outside.

What goes inside.

Phone, ID, credit card, key, lip balm, hair tie, a small portable battery, a poncho for outdoor venues. That is the list. Anything more should ride at the seat or stay in the hotel.

On the way to the stadium.

The clear bag travels inside the carry-on or the personal item until the venue. It does not become the bag of the day. The day bag is a tote or crossbody. The clear bag deploys at the gate and stows back in the carry-on after.

For travelers who attend events rarely.

A 12 x 6 x 12 PVC tote with a clutch pocket runs around 20 to 40 dollars. It is the only bag in this category where the cheaper end is rational; the upgrade path returns little value.

The bag is for the building, not the trip. Buy small, store flat, deploy as needed.
