The Beach Trip Packing Guide

What to pack for the beach, how to pack it, and the zipperless luggage that shrugs off sand and salt.

A beach trip asks for less than you think. Sun, water, a good book, and time to be still. The work is in the packing, not the beach. Pack with intention and the days stay easy: everything has a place, nothing fights you, and the case closes without a struggle. Here is how to pack for the beach, and the luggage that makes it simple.

What to pack for the beach

Keep it to what earns its place. Three short lists, nothing extra.

On the sand

  • Reef-safe sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher
  • A wide-brim hat and polarized sunglasses
  • A quick-dry towel, which packs smaller than a bath towel
  • A refillable water bottle
  • A book, or two

What you wear

  • Two swimsuits, so one dries while you wear the other
  • Linen and cotton layers that move from beach to dinner
  • One pair of sandals for the day, one for the evening
  • A light layer for the sea breeze after sundown

Tech and small things

  • Phone, charger, and a compact power bank
  • A pouch or dry bag for anything that cannot get wet
  • Sunscreen for the day bag, aloe for the evening

How to pack it well

Three habits keep a beach bag light.

  1. Keep wet separate from dry. Sand and salt water travel. Give damp swimwear and a used towel their own compartment so the rest of your bag stays clean and dry. A water-resistant wet/dry pocket is built for exactly this.
  2. Pack in groups, not piles. Roll your clothes and sort them by use. Packing cubes turn a checked case into shelves, so you unpack once and live out of order for the week.
  3. Leave room for the way home. A beach trip collects things: a market find, a jar of local honey, sand you meant to leave behind. Pack to about three-quarters full and let the trip fill the rest.

The case that handles sand and salt

The beach is hard on luggage. Sand finds zippers. Salt air finds anything that corrodes. Heat and handling find weak seams. Portar builds for that.

  • The Valence pairs a polycarbonate shell with a full-perimeter aluminum EdgeFrame™, our zipperless closure. No zipper means nothing for sand to jam. Lighter by design, sealed by engineering, and easy to lift into a rental car or onto a boat.
  • The Lucent is full satin-anodized aluminum. It takes the sun, the salt, and the miles and wears them well, each mark a record of where it has been.
  • Both carry a water-resistant wet/dry pocket inside, so a wet swimsuit rides home without soaking the rest of your things.

Every Portar piece ships with a lifetime limited warranty, free shipping, free returns, a 100-day trial. Pack it once. Take it everywhere.
